Dimensions of Christian mission toward reunification of Korea.
Cho, Eunsik.
Dimensions of Christian mission toward reunification of Korea.
- 423 p.
Adviser: Norman E. Thomas.
Thesis (D.Miss.)--United Theological Seminary, 1999.
This study is an analysis of multiple ways in which Protestant churches in South Korea have been and can be engaged in the movement for Korean unification. Six periods from 1945 were delineated in government policies and church involvement based on Korean and English primary source documents. Comparative analysis of the juche ideology of North Korea and of minjung theology revealed similarities important for dialogue. Interview and questionnaire responses by defectors showed difficulties in defector adaptation and anticipated problems after reunification. The study concludes with implications for future involvement by South Korean Protestants in reunification and mission to North Korea.
