There has been much written on collaboration between different disciplines (Manchipp, 2000, p. 15) but there has been less of an attempt to define collaboration between scientist (restorationist) and designer (landscape architect). In ecological restoration, collaboration between scientist and designer can be essential to a successful project.

520 $a Ecological restoration by nature is interdisciplinary. The Society for Ecological Restoration (SER), explains that ecological restoration is the process of assisting the recovery and management of ecological integrity. With environmental concerns becoming increasingly important, landscape architects are being called upon to bring their expertise to the table to help solve complex problems, as a result of these concerns, land restoration has become a major area of work (ASLA, 2002, p. 5).
520 $a Collaboration is a process of teamwork, group effort, participation and cooperation in which people work collectively towards a common goal to accomplish desired results. This thesis assesses collaboration between scientist (restorationist) and designer (landscape architect) in ecological restoration projects through quantitative and qualitative analysis by examining these key questions: (1) Is collaboration between restorationists and landscape architects necessary in a restoration project? (2) Do landscape architects play a vital role in collaboration on ecological restoration projects?

In such situations, active collaboration between restorationist and landscape architects can be one of the keys to developing a viable long-term partnership for ecological restoration.
