Finally, in the third part, we attempt to demonstrate the unity of time to space and the various chronotopic aspects in Prévost's literary universe. We also examine the interplay of time and space and what is at stake in the characters' lives.

After having examining the critical bibliography on Prévost, it becomes clear that the study of time and space is spotty and unexploited at best. It is in this context that a need for the present study occurs, whose purpose is to fill the obvious gap in the existing Prévostian bibliography. Time and space are two important organic elements in Prévost's literary universe and constitute a journey, the journey of the protagonists's lives. They are nomadic beings who travel all over the world. The unity of their personality, on the other hand, remains constant, despite the progression of age and change of location. This will be the fundamental axis of our study. In Prévost, time and space are inseparable from one another. The spatial experience of his characters fits into a precise duration, which shows us the impact both of time and space on them.

Time decomposes space, for the longer Prévostian characters' hardships last, the more space is tumultuous jail, room, garden, meadow, desert, forest, seaside, church, plain). The spatial decomposition by time leads Prévost's characters to labyrinthine places. Time, in this respect, is spatialized, since it is expressed in correlation with space. With the incessant trips undertaken by Prévost's characters, one observes that time and space make up the literary text, and fundamentally constitute the generator of the narrative dynamic. Thus we have found a spatial theory rooted in the inscription of space in the literary discourse. Time and space constitute the cornerstone of Prévost's novels founded both on passion and characters' displacements. I also extend my observations to other eighteenth-century French novelists, from Marivaux to Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, in order to show how Prévost differs from his contemporaries. Our study is divided into three parts.

The first one examines different temporal aspects of the narrative construction: the use of the tenses, dynamism of time, and internal, external, psychological, and historical time. In the last chapter we demonstrate how Prévostian time is linked to memory.

The second part analyzes space in its various features and representations by considering how Prévost's characters occupy the spaces in which they find themselves. Similarly, we also study the thematic, symbolic, and mythical aspect of space. With the affinities among the novels and their retrospective feature, the third chapter considers the meaning of space, the choice of places, and relationship between space and memory.

The study concludes that Prévost's novels are notably both chronotopic and dramatic. Indeed, the literary action covers spaces both narrow and wide, of durations that are brief or long. The continuation of the narrated events occurred overseas is also a spatial extension and lasts for quite some time, which is a Prévostian singularity. The correlation of time and space constitutes the reverberation of his characters' existence.
