Exposure of the farm family (pesticide applicator, spouse and child) to 2,4-D and MCPA through contaminated living quarters was investigated. Although not involved in herbicide application, 93.5% of spouses and 95.0% of children were exposed and had mean urine concentrations of 3.87 and 2.96 μg/L, respectively. All 32 farms had herbicide residues inside their homes. The areas of highest contamination included the wash-up faucet, the washing machine, and the exterior door handle. Herbicide levels within the home correlated with urine levels of the spouse and child. These results indicate that household sites inadvertently contaminated by pesticides contribute to chronic low levels of exposure in farm family members.

520 $a 2,4-D in the seminal fluid of dogs was measured. Of the applied dermal dose (1, 10, or 20 mg 2,4-D/kg bw), 0.013% (±0.011) was excreted in the seminal fluid within 96 hours and was no longer detectable after 216 hours. Analysis of split-ejaculates indicated 2,4-D was secreted into the seminal fluid and was not merely an artifact of urine contamination. Using radiolabelled 2,4-D <italic>in vitro</italic>, it was established that 2,4-D does not bind spermatozoa.
