The Changing Face of the Channel Islands is an independent study which has already attracted controversy. Based on five years of PhD research, it contains much fresh evidence, which vividly portrays the Islanders' Occupation experiences and explores all the most hotly disputed issues. These include: collaboration, resistance and starvation; wartime and later relations with Britain and the invader; the fate of missing forced workers; the question of whether Island Officials knowingly sent three Jewish women to their deaths in Auschwitz; and whether the Islands' experiences were unique, or would simply have provided the blueprint for Hitler's planned invasion of Britain. The study discusses, disputesand often refutes what are today becoming received ideas, which frequently seek to imply a a 'shameful' wartime past.
