520 $a Although some work can have positive effects to children, there are cases of child labor that are clearly detrimental to the physical, moral, emotional and social development of children. There have been international efforts to eliminate such undesirable child labor. In the Philippines, too, there have been legislative attempts to eliminate harmful child labor since the 1920's. However, to date the legislation has not been fully implemented. This thesis gives an overview of child labor in the world and in the Philippines. Causes of child labor are assessed. Philippine legislation on child labor is examined and some suggestions for change are made. In its conclusion, the thesis reviews possible strategies to combat child labor and calls for more research and community programs.
