Using qualitative research methodology of action research through appreciative inquiry, this author researched the current and emerging roles of Reference Librarians (RL's) at the University of Victoria's (UVic) McPherson Library. Utilizing interview questions and a world cafe approach, this researcher collaborated with the RLs to create a vision of the new roles, identify organizational changes and recommend strategies to best realize the new vision. The major findings of this research included: the RLs wishes for continuing to be valued by the academic community; their desire to collaborate and integrate with others; and the identification of a myriad of new roles for librarians. The conclusions resulting from the findings center on the RL's desire for organizational and cultural acceptance as partners in the research and teaching process at UVic. The research concludes with a number of recommendations.
