520 $a It provides information that promotes a better understanding of the Mexican system of legal education through the study of one of its key elements: the law students. The study is based on multi-component field research that included observations, interviews, document analysis, as well as questionnaires administered to almost 22,000 law students in Mexico.
520 $a Following the introduction explaining the methodology employed in this research, we offer a general description of Mexico's legal education system in Chapter II to explicate the context in which law students perform. The chapter describes the procedure to obtain a license to practice law, analyzes the content and structure of the curriculum, and explores the rapid growth in the number of law schools in the country. Chapter III analyzes selected socio-demographic characteristics of the law students. Chapter IV explores the reasons students have for choosing the Licenciatura en Derecho , as well as their academic expectations. Chapter V analyzes students' motivations for selecting a specific institution, and their experiences in the law school they attend. Chapter VI deals with students' professional practice experience and plans. It includes information about part-time working students, including the types of jobs they prefer, as well as their academic and work expectations after graduation. Finally, the primary conclusions of this study and suggestions for further research are presented in the Summary of Primary Findings and the Conclusions sections.
