Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2008.
The intent of this quantitative research study was to establish the connectivity that secondary education high school internship programs have on the academic achievement level, technical skill development and social growth of the student intern using two instruments, one commercial and the other developed. The commercial instrument measured the intern's level of self-esteem based on several identified variables while the developed instrument measured the intern's self-confidence level in several performance areas that were required for the internship position. An in school internship program housed in 17 high schools provided the sample population that consisted of student interns and their facilitators. Pre and Post averages of identified variables on both instruments were tabulated, and the data results generated from the study instruments supported two of the null hypotheses. On the other hand, data results partially supported one hypothesis thereby establishing the basis for recommendations that justify the need for further research on student participation in secondary education internship programs.
