This project examines the contemporary city as an ever-changing construction in space that reflects the cultural attitudes of its inhabitants. Specifically, it investigates the inclusion of cyberspace as a layer that is now being superimposed upon the existing natural rhythms and patterns of the city and how this new layer is affecting the way we interpret, navigate and communicate within the built environment. Through the design of a facility for Digital Art and New Media, the project demonstrates the influence the digital realm has on our design and interpretation of architecture and public space. In a city where virtual and physical realms co-exist, boundaries between them are blurred becoming areas where architects and designers are challenged with addressing new concepts involving time and space.

This presents opportunities for communication and interaction never before imagined on both individual and global scales. This unprecedented accessibility raises many interesting questions regarding our perception and interpretation of the spaces we occupy both physically and virtually. This MDP presents questions related to our participation within the digital realm and investigates what the design implications might be with regard to the creation of architecture.
