George, Janice Marie.
Ethnobotany and land management among the Duckwater Shoshone.
- 81 p.
Adviser: Catherine S. Fowler.
Thesis (M.A.)--University of Nevada, Reno, 2000.
This research focuses on the retained aspects of Western Shoshone traditional botanical knowledge, and their traditional land management practices in Nevada's Great Basin. Plants providing food, beverages, textiles, dyes and children's toys are investigated, while the often-sensitive topic of medicinal plants remains unexplored. With the active cooperation of elders and other knowledgeable tribal members, this research documents an unrecorded body of knowledge for the Western Shoshone people, as it currently exists among members of the Duckwater reservation.
