Recent studies have shown that obesity among adolescents and pre-adolescents has grown significantly in recent years in the United States for several reasons. It is now estimated that 20-25% of this population at risk of developing obesity related diseases during their lifetime and that children born today may be the 1st generation of children who will not outlive their parents due to their poor health and lifestyle if action is not taken.

The purpose of this project was to design a leisure education health program, in accordance with California health curriculum standards, that meets the current needs of pre-adolescents at risk of becoming or challenged with obesity in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, prevent obesity, and contribute to their overall health.
