Nevertheless, at a societal cost of almost $6 .5 billion, it does represent a growing concern for employers and the general public alike. In response to this concern, workplace violence experts have developed different strategies to predict and prevent instances of workplace violence. However, most research indicates that trying to predict future perpetrators of workplace violence is an ineffective approach. The research points toward the need to focus instead on prevention techniques.
520 $a The position taken in this paper is that a clear workplace violence policy, proper supervisory skills training, including early recognition of potential violence warning signs and a supportive work environment are key ingredients to preventing workplace violence. Based on analysis of the reports and studies by the U.S. government and various workplace violence experts provided in this paper, the position appears to be sufficiently supported.
