520 $a One of the member care tools available to the field leader is e-mail. In combination with personal visits, phone calls, and other relationship-enhancing tools and activities, e-mail can be an integral part of the field leader's member care options.
520 $a The research suggests that through a combination of a sincere desire to care for the members of the team and just a little effort to know each team member, the field leader can significantly improve the level of perceived care each member feels.
520 $a Unfortunately, many field leaders are inadequately prepared to make use of e-mail as a tool for member care. It is my desire, as the team leader of team leaders, to help those leaders under my care to develop their member care skills including their use of e-mail.
520 $a I gathered information that can be used to make observations related to how missionaries, in general, and field leaders, in particular, view member care and the use of e-mail. Age, gender, and psychological type proved to be particularly strong factors in the use of e-mail for member care.
520 $a The field leader can be trained in how to better decide how to use e-mail as a tool for giving care. For example, decisions about response time and length of an e-mail can be made based on an understanding of each team member's e-mail preferences. These preferences can be determined, in part, through the collection of objective information such as age, gender, and nationality as well as subjective information such as an individual's preference profile. With more research, this, in turn, might make it possible to create e-mail profiles for team members.
