The purpose of this study was to explore optimal delivery methods of training people as business and personal coaches, as perceived by coach trainers in successful coach training entities or companies. The conceptual framework of this study illumined the complexity of the issue of exploring optimal coach training delivery methods. The literature reviewed in this study focused on coaching outcomes, coaching models, blended learning, and the current state of delivery methods of coach training. A multiple case study methodology with the inclusion of autoethnography methodology was selected as most appropriate for achieving the purpose of this research. A series of in-depth, semi-structured interviews were utilized for data collection.

The findings from this study generate a knowledge base of optimal coach training delivery methods. A cross-case analysis yields a major theme that delivery methods matter less than components of content and focus in the training of coaches. Four sub-themes of this are found in the data. These are an openness to learn, learning to know oneself, the value of learning over time, and the importance of relationships in the coach-training process. The study concludes with recommendations for further study.
