Ray, Elaine.
Music and math: An inquiry into string playing on mathematical achievement.
- 65 p.
Adviser: Judy Hassen.
Thesis (M.A.E.)--Pacific Lutheran University, 2008.
The result of this inquiry suggests that there is a connection between string playing and mathematical achievement. Students who participated in the investigation played string instruments before math class. These fifth grade students were second to fourth year participants in a unique self-contained second through fifth grade Magic String program. Those who struggled in mathematics were found to struggle to play string instruments, whereas the mathematically high achievers were musically astute and advanced string players.
