Thesis (Ed.D.)--Northcentral University, 2008.
This research study was designed to investigate aspects of faith-based learning education that affect student success. The correlation between religious attributes and student achievement was examined. Faith-based learning schools and organizations and their faculties drawn from various school districts were surveyed. A mixed methodology approach was applied to analyze the data. A detailed statement was presented with accompanying data to support the explanation. A quantitative survey approach was used to collect data and a qualitative approach was used by to interview educators and students. A hermeneutical study was done to examine the historical and philosophical contexts of faith and education. Results were analyzed both in terms of educators and students. Analysis of the data revealed a significant relationship between faith instruction and gains in student achievement over a two-year period. The results of this research support the notion that faith-based learning can promote academic success both for at-risk students and for students in general. This research provides information for religious educators and political leaders who are invested in promoting student success. However, when socioeconomic and racial statuses were examined, the significance of the relationship remained only among the schools categorized within the faith-based learning bracket.
