Section 1 of this exploration begins with an overview of both African and Western Aesthetic ideals which were contemporary with the development of Western colonialism and the Atlantic slave trade in North America. I then move on to discuss strategic periods in Black history, i.e. the Antebellum South, the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements, Black Theology, and the contemporary Post-Black context; by identifying areas of commonality and complimentarity in artistic production, religious experience, and aesthetic value.

Section 2 examines certain aspects and problems within Art and Aesthetics by unpacking and elaborating upon various theories, hermeneutical constructs, and points of complimentarity which might be utilized within the Black Theological paradigm. Some of the topics addressed include: perception and cognition, creativity, the nature and functions of art...etc.

Section 3 utilizes a more creative and intuitive approach through the creation of a work of art. The new creation entitled Exodus is then used as a stepping stone for the application of biblical hermeneutic principles, aesthetic theories, and other various sources in order to create an interpretative dialogue between the work of art and the applicable biblical text.
