How does a project management team successfully manage requirements and meet project cost, performance, and schedule objectives? During project development requirements management begins during the systems analysis phase and continues throughout the lifecycle of the system. Shelly, Cashman, & Rosenblatt, (2001) assert that maintaining visibility of system requirements is crucial to project success; therefore, integrating project development products (i.e., requirements determination, modeling, scheduling, budget, and business rules) is believed to be critical to management of project requirements to meet project cost, performance, and schedule objectives. This research study focuses on gaining an understanding of how project management teams currently manage project requirements in order to recommend improvements to current capabilities, processes, and procedures. This study proposes that current requirements management capabilities, processes, and procedures are too cumbersome and require integration to support project cost, performance, and schedule objectives. Utilizing probability sampling increased the validity of this study by implementing a stratified random sampling model. This model examined collected information in relation to study participants' project management team professional role, experience and education level, and gender. To collect study information a survey instrument that presented a series of questions to the 83 survey participants. The statistical analysis used delineated between the descriptive data for all study variables through inferential analysis using t tests and ANOVA measures to determine the relationships and significant differences between study variables. The study required hypotheses for each study investigative question in order to address relationships and any significant differences between the current and future requirements management processes, procedures, and products and the project cost, performance, and schedule objectives.
