The purpose of our study was to implement a paper-based tool that allowed prenatal genetic counseling patients to complete their pregnancy, medical and family history information prior to their scheduled appointments. After compiling this information, surveys were distributed to patients and their genetic counselors to assess the following: (1) Whether the patients were able to provide more accurate health information because the questionnaires were filled out in advance; (2) Whether the amount of time spent obtaining this information during the session was reduced; (3) Whether more time was available to address the patients' reason for referral, testing options, and issues of concern raised in the pregnancy, medical and/or family histories. Results. We could not draw conclusions because we had poor patient participation and scarce data; however, the results from the surveys we received were promising for future studies. Suggestions were given for modifying our protocol for further research.
