The community college must not only adapt to meet the needs of lower-income students with the limited resources that prevent them from entering 4-year institutions but also develop methods of accommodating a much larger working class of students. Effective leaders not only identify practices that add value to organizations but also develop a vision that stimulates organizational change. An effective vision that promotes educational innovation may be a matter of leadership style. The leader of a community college must be able to identify the need of educational innovation and convey a stimulating vision. This study evaluated if presidential leadership style or characteristics play a major role in the decision to provide or grow distance learning educational opportunities.
