Thesis (Ph.D.)--The Union Institute, 1989.
Recent brain research findings verify the need for change in education. Methods that are more "brain compatible" such as Accelerated Learning are recommended. Accelerated learning is a generic term used to denote increased quantity and quality of learning by tapping reserve potentials of the mind. Active Learning is a strand of Accelerated Learning developed to enhance memory and facilitate retention. This method turns small blocks of time that are often wasted into valuable learning experiences.Subjects--Topical Terms:

A review of the literature and research relating to the techniques supports the method. Practical applications of Active Learning that bridge the gap between the abstract world of educational theory and the real world of children and the classroom are presented.

This handbook provides a selection of classroom-tested alternative ways of presenting or reviewing lessons in a joyful manner. It is organized into subject areas with mnemonics and activities appropriate for geography, language arts, math, and social skills. The learning songs, raps, cheers, and mnemonics are to be used occasionally for variety and to motivate student participation. They involve children in lesson-related activities that are free of stress which has been called the number one enemy of a good memory.
