Thesis (Ph.D.)--Northcentral University, 2008.
This quantitative study was an investigation of the effect of voice and video distance learning technologies in the success of learners in distance education courses. The primary purpose was to determine whether the addition of advanced Internet technologies to a distance education course benefits the learner and results in improved learner success. The researcher also provided insight to the profile of the successful distance learner and showed that the use of voice and video technology did not have an effect on learners' academic success or increase their satisfaction in either a fully online or blended distance education course. The researcher found that older learners, with higher grade point averages and some previous postsecondary education, were more successful in fully distance education courses. Blended learners need a higher grade point average and technical competence with Internet technologies to be successful. Finally, the researcher also found that learning style did not affect learners' distance education success and that the success of the postsecondary institution is not dependent on the use of advanced Internet technologies in their distance education course materials.
