This quantitative, experimental study used a pretest/posttest design to investigate the change in critical thinking skills of baccalaureate nursing students who participated in a face-to-face learning or an equivalent Web-based learning activity. Using a convenience sample of two groups of senior-level baccalaureate nursing students who were enrolled in the same clinical nursing course, a commercially available tool was used to collect data about the student's critical thinking skills. Additionally, a demographic questionnaire was developed by the researcher to collect background information from the participants. Eighty-three students participated in this study. Forty (48.2%) of the participants were included in the control group. The remaining 43 (51.81%) were included in the experimental group. This study found no increases in critical thinking over time with the use of different learning activities and no decreases were noted either. This finding suggests that online or computer-based learning activities may be at least as good as more traditional learning activities.
