This study reports on the findings of a qualitative research study utilizing a pilot sample of eight interviews, which obtained the perspectives of service providers working with clients who suffer from addictions. The interviews focused on life skills management in recovery and policy issues. The results substantiated the need to develop a patient assistance work program called Plant Some Hope using the principles of horticultural therapy. This program would serve as an interim program service for patients who suffer from addictions and need to develop life skills management but do not yet qualify for services through the Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities through the New York State Department of Education due to current service gaps in policy. This program hopes to serve as a tool to improve services and reduce recidivism for addiction programs.
