Thesis (Psy.D.)--The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, 2007.
According to a 2004 report by the Council of Graduate Schools, 26% of graduate enrollment consisted of ethnic minorities. This is a substantial presence and as the number of ethnic minority students enrolling in graduate institutions increases, it is crucial for graduate institutions' career centers to both recognize and prepare for this growing pool of students. Currently, ethnic minority graduate students must contend with career centers that are largely designed to serve undergraduate students and the majority population. The following handbook augments existing graduate level career centers by infusing multicultural considerations into their services. This handbook proceeds in assessing the general state of career services in graduate institutions, identifying minority needs indicated in existing literature, and utilizing minority student input gathered via focus groups. The two goals of this handbook are to generate greater awareness of the varied needs of a growing group in graduate programs and provide appropriate delivery options of services for career centers.
