Cohen, David L.
Towards an ambitious, developmentally-oriented psychotherapy in adult oncological thanatology.
- 135 p.
Chairperson: Robert Weathers.
Thesis (Psy.D.)--Pepperdine University, 1990.
This text integrates oncology, psychosomatic medicine, existential psychology and philosophy, immunology, psychoanalytic psychology, and other forms of psychological theory and application in the hope of arriving at an efficacious psychotherapeutic model for the adult, terminally ill cancer population. A synthesis of the literature is used to suggest that an ambitious, developmentally-oriented psychotherapy may well serve the psychological needs of this population, while augmenting whatever medical interventions are being administered. The model propounded suggests that the final stage of life is one for growth as well as for loss, and that psychotherapists should use the terminal crisis to catalyze psychological growth.Subjects--Topical Terms:
