Thesis (M.S.W.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2008.
Since the early 1900s, education has been viewed and approached in a variety of ways. Certain groups have attempted to use political strategies to shape the educational system to fit their needs and interests. There is a general belief that every child is entitled to an education, however, throughout history certain children have been denied this right. This thesis analyzes movements and legislation that have affected the educational system of the United States and how it has impacted the expansion of educational benefits, especially for undocumented students. There is a general disagreement about the rights of undocumented students, as well as the implementation of the Development and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act).
