The purpose of this project was to design and write a grant for a comprehensive mental health program for youth who are severely emotionally disturbed. There is a current need for mental health services for this client population that focuses upon important aspects of adolescent development. These youth suffer from a variety of challenges that affect their social, emotional, and academic functioning. The YESS program's goal is to improve the youths overall functioning affecting further development through activities centered on strengthening self-esteem, acquiring appropriate social skills, and increasing community involvement. A literature review and needs assessment was conducted to complete a grant proposal as well as a search for a potential funding source. The identified funding source for the proposed program is the Weingart Foundation. If funded, the proposed program would provide innovative and comprehensive mental health services to assist youth who are emotionally disturbed to optimally function within their environment.
