This study explored the underlying factors that influence parents' choice to exit public schools in Utah County, in the State of Utah, and enroll their children in private schools. It also explored why parents chose the specific private school their child is currently enrolled in and their satisfaction level with that school.

520 $a Data was collected from eight private school principals, 129 parents who have children currently enrolled in private schools, and parental focus groups representing three of the schools involved in the study. The principals and parents in the study are in agreement as to the perceived failure of public education to meet many students' individual needs.
520 $a A central finding in this research is that parents who make an active decision to leave public education and enroll their children in private schools continue to be involved in their child's education and fell greater satisfaction that their child's needs are being met. As a group, the private school patrons in Utah County are generally satisfied with their children's current educational experiences.
