The connections between the philosophy of time and the philosophy of language serve as an excellent avenue for exploration regarding the ontological nature of time. Assuming a correspondence theory of truth we ought to assign propositions their truth values based on reality, and thus the conditions under which a proposition is true reflect reality. Because tensed, as well as tenseless, language can be evaluated based on tenseless truth conditions we are free to adopt a B-theoretic approach to the metaphysical questions surrounding time. Such a B-theoretic approach stipulates that the properties of time are solely the relations of earlier-than, later-than, and simulations-with, this contrasted with the A-theoretic properties of past, future, and preset.

Due to the metaphysical problems introduced into the A-theory of time by McTaggart's Paradox, the tenser (A-theorist) must be committed to the metaphysical position of presentism, and thus indeterminism. Such a commitment to indeterminism is problematic for a tenser, as it will not be able to support a formalization using supervaluations as indeterminist logics tend to. Thus it is left with three valued logics which are unable to supply many intuitive truth value assignments. Because of these undesirable results, which are integral to the A-series, we ought to adopt the B-theory of time. The B-theory of time is able to describe the truth conditions of tensed sentences, while avoiding the problems endemic to the A-theory.
