The researcher explored how and why the views held by this demographic seem to reflect negative stereotypes rather than the visible achievements wrought by the American labor movement, such as racial and gender-based wage equality and improved worker safety. Interview results showed that most of those interviewed hold very negative views of labor unions because they perceived that the costs of union dues outweigh the benefits provided by unions.
