The Final Project I have produced proves the importance of creativity in the teaching of our young. I have built on the programs that I have taken during my work in this program in support of this aforementioned end. I show how our present day attitudes towards student creativity are being informed by past educational and philosophical practices. The Final Project explores how best to approach creative nonfiction writing with adolescents in a manner that nurtures, encourages, tutors, and channels the creativity of our charges. The Final Project includes supporting evidence of the need for afterschool programs to prevent "at-risk" children from adding to our burgeoning school dropout rates. Finally, the Final Project includes the components of a successful grant to secure monies for a Creative Nonfiction Writing with Adolescents Afterschool Program.
