In One-of-a-Kind Production (OKP), high customization results in frequent disturbances and changes on product design and production, thus making it difficult to schedule and control production on OKP shop floors. Therefore, production chaos often happens and causes high cost in OKP companies. To adaptively schedule/reschedule and control the production, an automatic pipeline, inventory and order based production control with capacity and outsourcing (APIOBPC-CO) control system has been developed. To minimize the production cost, three production planning models, viz., capacitated production planning with outsourcing (CPP-O), with backlogging (CPP-OB) and with temporary employee (CPP-OBT), are presented. Finally this thesis reports a software package developed based on the philosophy of product production structure (PPS), which is an integrated data structure of product design (represented by bill of materials) and operation routines (represented by bill of operations). The software system has also been tested in a local OKP company, Startec Refrigeration and Compressor Ltd. in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
