Thesis (M.A.)--Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, 2007.
This thesis explores the relationship between education and nature in the writings of Jose Marti. By first bringing together Marti's theory of Nature, specifically the relationship between humans and their environment, I attempt to show the process by which humans learn from the environment. In this discussion of Marti's writing, I describe four distinct roles of nature within this process: place, essence, resources, and pure human life. Considering Marti's philosophy of education in terms of its relationship to this process, offers a deeper understanding of its theoretical basis.
