This application represents an innovative synergy between OR/MS and information technology. Integer programming and network optimization models were used in conjunction with a geographical information system (MapInfo) to develop a product sourcing heuristic. Over 1000 sessions with PSH were used by P&G product strategy teams to evaluate sourcing alternatives. The restructuring recommendations that came from these analyses have resulted in quantifiable cost savings in excess of
