The 1982 collapse of the al-Manakh equity market triggered a national financial crisis in Kuwait. The authors, in cooperation with the Finance Minister, reconstructed the records of outstanding trade transactions and used a linear programming model to determine the Odebt settlement ratioO of each trader. Furthermore, a system of linear equations was used to determine the financial composition of the debt payment. These mathematical models provided the grounds on which court decisions were made.
