Assistive technology has a significant impact on helping students with disabilities find their voice for communication, which results in the students having the necessary tools to navigate the same learning environment as peers without learning disabilities and determining the appropriate type of assistive technology, whether high-tech or low tech, high or low cost, easily accessible, can be lengthy. A student's team must work together to create the most appropriate toolbox of assistive technology resources, allowing students to have equal learning opportunities to their same-age peers. This paper has been researched and written to provide information to inform future educators about various benefits, barriers, perspectives of others, and other uses, namely communication, of assistive technology. Information has been gathered from multiple case studies, journal articles, and websites to provide a foundation of information related to assistive technology to serve as a teaching tool for future educators to reference when entering the field of education as new educators.
