Propelled by humanity's ongoing space exploration, this dissertation studies atmospheric entry guidance, a critical technology for precise and safe planetary landings. A series of interconnected studies that explore the challenges and potential solutions in entry guidance is presented. Firstly, a comparative analysis of existing guidance laws and an extensive literature review facilitate two branches of entry guidance research. Secondly, a novel entry guidance law that can efficiently identify optimal entry trajectories for two types of entry missions is proposed based on optimal control theory. Thirdly, a thorough analysis of numerical predictor-corrector guidance (NPCG) reveals its limitations on energy management and provides a solution to address them. Fourthly, the NPCG technique is further improved to ensure it can generate entry trajectories precisely satisfying mission requirements. Examination and advancement of entry guidance capabilities presented in this study are expected to contribute to future planetary exploration efforts.
