This thesis attempts to demonstrate the importance of spatial writing in Late Tang poets' poetic presentations. I argue that spatial writings were utilized by Late Tang poets who were proactive in the literary network as a critical writing strategy in different kinds of poetic presentations. And spatial writing should be viewed as a component of their poetic competence in poetry exchange. The first part of this thesis discusses how Late Tang literary seniors wrote poetic presentations for civil service examination candidates. It will argue that spatial writing played a critical role in encoding literary seniors' messages. Part two turns to analyze Late Tang poets' spatial writings in poetic presentations for their literati friends. And it will investigate how writing the spatial experience of a landmark participated in the making of a Late Tang poet's literary images and cultural memories. Part three will complete this thesis with a study on poetic presentations addressed to literary seniors for patronage seeking. It will analyze how the poetic writings of places and spaces could perform its duty in this kind of presentation, which required strong competence from the poet.
