Its literary writing integrates the blending and interaction of history and modernity, and the continuous narration and imaginative construction of this place by writers of different periods have endowed the artistic image of Dali with new connotations. In the classical literature atlas, it is seen by others as a land of fishy and savage tribes, a land of fragrant rituals and music, a land of Buddha worshiping, and a place for exile. During the development of Chinese new literature, it has been gradually known to the public as an ideal place behind the front-line of wars, a secret realm of martial arts, and an ecological and livable city. The shaping of these images is closely related to the aesthetic Utopian ideas. Under the influence of aesthetic utopia, Dali in the writings of ancient and modern literati has transcended its existence as a geographical and spatial concept. It is an aesthetic ideal, characterized by the civilization of thousands of years, as well as the beauty of wind, flowers, snow, and moon, the tranquil sea and clear lake, and the beauty of embracing simplicity and inclusiveness. Its unique aesthetic temperament emits a mysterious, romantic, and harmonious air, touching the hearts of the world and enriching the expressive space and historical landscape of Chinese literature.
