OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the long-term color stability and translucency of 3D printed denture teeth under simulated oral conditions.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Five groups of denture teeth materials were tested: three 3D printed resins (Premium Teeth HT [PT], Rodin Titan [RT], Lucitone Digital IPN with and without sealer [IPNS, IPNP]) and one milled PMMA resin (Ivotion Dent [ID]). Specimens (n=125) were fabricated into standardized square shapes (14x14x2.5 mm) and subjected to staining agents (coffee, tea, wine, distilled water) and artificial accelerated aging (AAA). Color and translucency were measured at baseline, after 3.5 days/after exposure to 150 kJ/m² of irradiance (T1), and after 7 days/after 300 kJ/m² of irradiance (T2) using a spectrophotometer. Color differences (ΔE₀₀) and translucency parameter differences (ΔTP₀₀) were calculated using the CIEDE2000 formula. Two-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc tests were used for statistical analysis (α = 0.05).RESULTS: Significant interactions between material type and test condition were observed across all time intervals for both ΔE₀₀ and ΔTP₀₀ (p < 0.000001). RT exhibited the most pronounced color and translucency changes, with ΔE₀₀ values consistently exceeding the acceptability threshold (1.8) and ΔTP₀₀ values surpassing the translucency threshold (2.6), particularly in wine and tea. PT showed moderate changes, exceeding thresholds in wine and AAA. ID demonstrated the most stable performance, with all values remaining within perceptibility limits. Both IPNS and IPNP showed unacceptable color changes across all conditions, with no significant benefit from the sealer application.CONCLUSIONS: Within the limitations of this in vitro study, statistically significant differences in color and translucency stability were observed among the tested 3D printed and milled denture teeth materials when exposed to various staining solutions and artificial accelerated aging. Among the evaluated materials, RT exhibited the greatest susceptibility to esthetic degradation, with both color and translucency changes exceeding clinically acceptable thresholds. In contrast, the subtractively manufactured ID demonstrated the most consistent and clinically acceptable performance across all test conditions.
