The purpose of this research was to explore the impact of Hurricane Katrina on the creative processes of young musicians in New Orleans and to evaluate the role of architectural design in mitigating the effects of future storms. The significance of this research was to explore the unique connection between cultural resilience and architectural innovation that became evident following Hurricane Katrina because rebuilding efforts became connected to a sense of cultural preservation. The research problem was centered around understanding how Hurricane Katrina influenced the artistic expression of these musicians and the architectural innovations aimed at enhancing the city's resilience. This research question was generated to address the problem: What was the impact of architectural design choices on the creative processes of young musicians in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina? The methods used in this study were analysis of case studies, literature reviews about the subject, and review of archival data. This study produced a design that clarified the facilities' relation to the culture and environmental issues of Louisiana.
