The aim of this qualitative exploratory content analysis was to investigate whether social and emotional objectives can be incorporated into individualized education plans (IEPs) to equip students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). IEPs were examined as examples from ten states to assess their alignment with federal guidelines. Using thematic analysis, patterns and themes emerge from the data. The population consisted of 20 peer-reviewed articles that addressed teachers' perceptions of the social and emotional needs of students with ASD attending a post-secondary institution. The second target population included 10 peer-reviewed articles on the perceptions of students with ASD about the social and emotional needs of students with ASD. Findings suggest a need for greater emphasis on social-emotional development to promote long-term success in post-secondary education. Findings also indicate the need for consistency in aligning state-level IEPs with federal guidelines and underscore the value of developing well-rounded objectives that address essential skills, such as communication, adaptability, and emotional regulation. The findings of this study have significant implications for enhancing educational practices, policies, and support systems for students with ASD. Educators can utilize these insights to design more effective training programs, implement inclusive practices, and develop targeted interventions that support student success. .
