The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to explore how middle school teachers described the influence of implementing social-emotional learning on middle school students' social and emotional development. This study was supported by the theoretical foundation from the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) using the five competencies for social and emotional development. The five competencies include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The research questions included in this study were RQ1: "How do middle school teachers describe the influence of social-emotional learning on students' interpersonal skills?" RQ2: "How do middle school teachers describe the influence of social-emotional learning on students' intrapersonal skills?," and RQ3: "How do middle school teachers describe the influence of social-emotional learning on students' responsible decision-making?" The sources of data included 51 questionnaire participants and 10 semi-structured interview participants. A condensed codebook included 108 distinct codes in which 5 themes emerged through using Braun and Clarke's (2022) thematic analysis with reflexivity. The findings of this study suggest using social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies with middle school students positively influences middle school students' overall social and emotional development. The researcher recommends future research with additional educational stakeholders for a holistic view of the influence of SEL with middle school students.
