The purpose of this qualitative study and practitioner assistance strategy was to understand the best practices that determine sustainable DEI programs designed to increase, retain, and develop women in leadership roles in the NFL. The underrepresentation of women working in major league sports teams highlights the need for targeted strategies to recruit, retain, and develop more women in the industry, particularly in leadership roles. Addressing these disparities can lead to more inclusive and equitable sports organizations. Lack of inclusion comes at a high cost for women experiencing it, for sports organizations, and for the organizations' stakeholders. The data collection method utilized in this study was in-depth qualitative interviews that allowed for an examination of the lived experiences, insights, and strategies of DEI practitioners working within NFL Clubs. A thematic coding process was applied to the transcripts to systematically identify and categorize recurring themes, patterns, and insights related to DEI strategies and best practices. The coding framework was developed based on both the research objectives and key concepts. Participants included eight DEI practitioners employed by NFL clubs and holding director-level or higher roles. The study's findings revealed that DEI initiatives contribute to the advancement of women and to broader organizational goals such as revenue generation and access to a broader fan base. The study concludes with three recommendations, in the areas of best practices, barriers for success, and perceived impact. DEI practitioners at NFL Clubs, and DEI practitioners throughout the Major League Sports Industry will benefit from the study's findings.
