This dissertation explores the fear of God and Conscience from the Puritan perspective by drawing insights into Puritan views of biblical concepts. The paper also contains information about the biblical use of the fear of God and conscience, which provides the necessary comparative points to those of Puritans about the concepts. The problem the study seeks to address is the role of Puritan teaching on the fear of God on the early American conscience and how a similar message can guide and encourage Christians today to live more pious lives. This dissertation uses a historical-critical method to analyze and review various literature sources and biblical verses to establish Puritan perceptions of the fear of God and conscience. The literature review concentrates on Puritan history in early America, the fear of God, conscience, piety, faith, and covenant obedience. The paper also explores Puritan ministries to show the activities in which Puritans engaged by analyzing societal impacts on Puritanism in early America and how they ministered in churches and homes. The research also explores Calvinism and Arminianism, critical theological systems within Puritanism. The dissertation findings reveal that Puritan understanding of the fear of God shaped the collective conscience in early America and still guides and encourages Christians today to live more pious lives.
