Carl F. H. Henry's theological contributions significantly influenced twentieth- century evangelical thought by integrating orthodoxy with orthopraxy. As Fundamentalism retreated from societal engagement, Henry advocated for a commitment to social justice rooted in biblical precepts. His vision of a progressive Fundamentalism sought to balance doctrinal fidelity with an active love for God and neighbor, emphasizing that true Christian witness required both theological integrity and tangible social action. This dissertation examines Henry's model of evangelical social action by highlighting his theological formation and critique of both the Social Gospel movement and Fundamentalism. While Henry acknowledged the Social Gospel's concern for justice, he rejected its theological shortcomings. Henry also critiqued Fundamentalism's disengagement from societal issues and argued that advocates often neglected the biblical mandate for justice and compassion.Henry built his theological framework on the imago Dei, human sinfulness, and Christ's redemptive work. He maintained that Scripture provided the foundation for addressing oppression and injustice and warned readers to avoid apathy and inconsistent evangelical orthopraxy. Advocating for a progressive Fundamentalist approach, Henry called on individuals, churches, and organizations to integrate orthodoxy with social justice. While his model corrected key deficiencies in both Fundamentalism and the Social Gospel, it exhibited limitations in the implantation of direct social reform and the practical implementation of his model. This dissertation concludes with an assessment of Henry's ongoing relevance to social engagement within contemporary evangelicalism.
