Values shape every church whether intentionally or not. Their values impact nearly every aspect of ministry, which affects a church's health and culture. This project argues that while many churches do not have stated values, churches need to identify, clarify, and state their values to harness their power and utilize them to shape who they want to be. The project director began the process of identifying and stating core values through his project where he developed and preached a sermon series to introduce selected biblical core values to Westside Baptist Church. In chapter 1, the project director outlined the project and its distinctives. He clarified the project's purpose, established ministry and personal objectives, researched the ministry context to prove the project's need, and defined key terms. In chapter 2, the project director established the biblical and theological foundations for the six selected biblical core values that he preached on in his sermon series. He established these foundations by studying six biblical texts: John 15:1-6; 2 Tim 2:2; Eph 4:11-12; Matt 5:13-16; Matt 28:19-20; Rom 12:1-2. For each text, he provided the context, biblical exegesis, theological implications, and practical applications. In chapter 3, the project director examined the inescapable, elusive, and invaluable nature of core values. He explained the necessity of stating core values to utilize their power, and the need for stating them in the local church specifically. Last, he outlined types of core values (actual, aspiration, and biblical), and a way to identify them.In chapter 4, the project director discussed the project design and explained how he selected the final verbiage for the six biblical core values for WBC. He also detailed how he implemented the project through preaching the six sermons at WBC and explained the methods employed to receive feedback. In chapter 5, the project director interacted with feedback to determine the efficacy and impact of the project. His analysis included ministry and personal objectives, project strengths and weaknesses, suggestions for further implementation, and reflections.
