This project examines the fittingness of man, as the image and glory of God, for the doxological end for which he was created. Utilizing the concept of analogia gloriae, I argue that glorifying God is man's natural obligation and created purpose, not only as a creature, but specifically as the image and glory of God, reflected in man who is created both as a psychosomatic union and as male and female. Yet since the eternal fellowship of the Trinity is itself a glorifying movement, it is also fitting that God would grant man, having perfectly rendered glory to God in covenantal terms, a face-to-face fellowship with God in a liturgical movement of mutual glorification as man's eschatological end.The Reformed position on the nature of man is often articulated in contrast to the Roman Catholic position. Chapters two and three survey the history of the Roman Catholic and the Reformed positions, respectively, and when laid out side by side, they not only show the structural parallels between the two systems of theology, but also further reveal the proper questions that need to be considered when I articulate the relationship between man and his eschatological end. These historical surveys will also set this project up to examine in chapter four a deeper theological foundation for the anthropology of this project: the concept of analogia gloriae. By this concept, I will be able to further demonstrate both the alterity and ordering between man as created and his eschatological end. I will then conclude my argument in chapter five by summarizing how all these discussions support both the structure and the content of my main thesis, and how my thesis coheres within the conclusions of the larger Reformed tradition.
